Trends Fall 2012

Sans Pants
This Spring brought in a more lady-like look for women which included skirts, dresses and soft colors.  With Fall, pants are still out of the picture.  But this time around, women are shedding their softness for more powerful gowns and suits.  This is Fall the dress is no longer a sign of weakness.  Men can have their pants back, we don't need 'em.

Top Five 2/11/12

Top Five 2/11/12
Don't Bogart Me
Ruffian's chief designers Brian Wolk and Claude Morias are bringing the fedora back with a Casablanca-esque collection this season.  The two have suddenly turned the ultra-masculine into the ultra-feminine.
Prom Queen
After winning Project Runway, Christian Siriano has become one of the shows most successful designers with ready-to-wear lines in boutiques all across the country and a shoe collection for Payless.  This season he has channeled his inner goth with deep red and black colored garments and little black lipstick.
Bondage
Known for their slender silhouettes that are inspired by the "bandage dress", Hervé Léger by Max Azria adorned each of their models with her own leather "corset." They also featured geometric patterns and gladiator-like strapped boots.
Modern Explorer
Mara Hoffman started off with her Circle line in 2000 that featured hand dyed pieces influenced by African art.  She has continued to feature intricate and amazing patterns in all of her lines. She too is bringing back the hat this season.
Extraterrestrial
Prabal Gurung has taken us to a galaxy far, far away this season with a wide range of out of this world garments.  The show starts out dark and angular and then morphs into lighter colors with curvier lines.  The collection is all over the place and absolutely fantastic.

Top Five 2/9/12

Top Five Designers 2/9/12
Minty Fresh
Juan Carlos Obando is fairly new to the game with his first runway show in 2008, but so far he is making a name for himself with silk dresses and fur accents.  He bringing old Hollywood glamour back in a whole new way.
Dark Horse
Before launching his own line, Richard Chai Love, in 2009 Richard Chai worked for Marc by Marc Jacobs and started Target's Go International line.  This season his line has a very neutral color palette, which seems to be a big trend this year.
Azul
This line was ball gowns and evening wear galore.  I must say Tadashi Shoji has a way with chiffon.  I like that he didn't fuss too much with the lines and let the fabric frame the female figure. (which it did quite eloquently)
Factory Girl
Cynthia Rowely had a very industrial revolution factory worker look going for her this season.  The cuts were sleek and feminine, and I enjoyed the models simple make up and hair that added to the industrial theme.
Vampire Wedding
Known for his love of contrast Gary Graham had a lot of pops of color blended into his muted rustic ensembles.  I love how in the above picture he make this sexy red dress modest with the sheer high cut over dress.
