Trends Fall 2012 (3)

Fur
Before weaving and knitting fabric, there was fur.  The textile has been used for thousands of years but in the modern era it has been used as a status symbol and item of controversy.  Until recently, it was something to be worn by rich old ladies or to toss red paint at.  This season fur is turning a new leaf.

Top Five 2/11/12

Top Five 2/11/12
Don't Bogart Me
Ruffian's chief designers Brian Wolk and Claude Morias are bringing the fedora back with a Casablanca-esque collection this season.  The two have suddenly turned the ultra-masculine into the ultra-feminine.
Prom Queen
After winning Project Runway, Christian Siriano has become one of the shows most successful designers with ready-to-wear lines in boutiques all across the country and a shoe collection for Payless.  This season he has channeled his inner goth with deep red and black colored garments and little black lipstick.
Bondage
Known for their slender silhouettes that are inspired by the "bandage dress", Hervé Léger by Max Azria adorned each of their models with her own leather "corset." They also featured geometric patterns and gladiator-like strapped boots.
Modern Explorer
Mara Hoffman started off with her Circle line in 2000 that featured hand dyed pieces influenced by African art.  She has continued to feature intricate and amazing patterns in all of her lines. She too is bringing back the hat this season.
Extraterrestrial
Prabal Gurung has taken us to a galaxy far, far away this season with a wide range of out of this world garments.  The show starts out dark and angular and then morphs into lighter colors with curvier lines.  The collection is all over the place and absolutely fantastic.
